Florid Epiphanies

While visiting my folks in Florida last week, I woke and bolted upright from my bed at 1 AM on a Wednesday. It was all so suddenly clear. I got up, found a pencil, and wrote in the dark (on what turned out to be a Skip-BO scoresheet):

  • Consciousness is a locality phenomenon
  • Consciousness is warped by gravity – an illusion of locality in the manifold
  • Reality is a manifold of warped substance
  • Consciousness is the thing that is warped by gravity (mass in locality)

I no longer feel the gravitas of meaning therein. But at the time it seemed genius.

When To Retreat From The Retreat; S.N. Goenka and Vipassana

I wrote this essay below about my second 10-day silent meditation retreat, in the first hours upon returning home from it.  It’s harried and woolly in places, and I’m not sure how much my thoughts and feelings have changed over time.  After sitting on this for a year, I decided to share it with the internet at large, for those considering a retreat of their own.  Be the change and all, right?
